When my mother needed dental care, mobile dentistry for the aged was the first thought that popped into my head. It had become increasingly harder and harder to take her to the dentist. We would make the appointment but then I would struggle to get her in the car, we were always late, and she would get very stressed at the appointment. After the appointment, she would be disorientated and although her mouth would be in a good condition, she was not. This all changed when I discovered mobile dentistry was a thing. It was my mom’s old age home that alerted me to this and the last two years have been so much easier with mobile dentistry.
Mobile dental care
Mobile dental care is when the mobile dental clinic comes to you. Generally the staff at the old aged home or care facility make the appointments on behalf of all the patients. The mobile dental clinic comes to the care facility and patients come, one at a time, for their appointment. In my case, or with my mother, the old aged home made the appointment for her and then one of the nurses came and assisted my mom to the clinic which was parked in the parking lot.
I have seen the mobile dental clinic as I accompanied my mom on her first visit. It was absolutely fantastic. It was fitted out just like a regular dental clinic, with a large space, a comfortable dental chair, a stool for the dentist, cupboards and fittings for all the dentist’s equipment, good light and good mirrors. It was specially designed so it was easy for old people to come in and out, without stress. The dentist and his assistant were both incredible and very gentle. My mother was not stressed at all.
Mobile dental procedures
A mobile dentist specializes in geriatric care and therefore offers the procedure or procedures that most geriatric people will need. These include but are not limited to general mouth and teeth cleanings, denture fittings, dental tooth extractions, bridges, implants and even root canal treatment. The dentist has all the equipment that they would need in an ordinary practice and the practice is extremely sterile and hygienic. Once inside, one would not think that this is a mobile practice at all.
The cost of a mobile dentist seems to be the same as that of an ordinary dentist and yet, it is so convenient and efficient, the cost could be more. I know some health care plans that cover dentistry covers a mobile dentist too. Our experience at the mobile dental clinic was quite extraordinary. There was no stress and no anxiety and I know my mother is even looking forward to her next dental appointment.
Healthy teeth and healthy gums are vital for old people and they need regular dental visits. This can be achieved easily by using a mobile dentist, one who specializes in mobile dentistry for the aged at good and affordable rates.
