A submersible water pump is an efficient pump that comes with a lot of benefits when installed properly. However, if you install it wrong, the pump might break down unexpectedly leading to costly repairs. Here are a few tips for installing a submersible pump correctly.
Motor topping up
The motor comes pre-filled with an anti-corrosive liquid-drinking water mixture. When installing your pump, you should position the motor on its base vertically and check if the fasteners are tight enough. If they are not tight, you should tighten them up. The threaded plugs provided at the top of the cable box should be removed.
Topping up the motor with pure water
You should check the motor and top it up with clear water. If there are any air bubbles, you should remove them gently by rocking the submersible motor to and from. You should check the level of water in the motor to ensure it is at the recommended levels. If not, top it up with cold pure water. The next step should be to re-assemble two threaded plugs and ensure the motor is properly encapsulated.
Then you should go ahead and dry the exterior of the motor. Check for water leakage and if there is no leakage, the motor should be ready for coupling with the water pump and installation.
Waterproof the submersible motor cable
A submersible water pump for sale is supplied with a 3-core PVC insulated flat cable of three meters. The free end of the cable of the motor should be connected to the supply cable from your control panel. As the joint is nearly submerged in water, it needs to be waterproof.
Check the direction of the motor
Once you have completed waterproofing the joint connected to the supply cable and the motor cable, you should check if the direction the shaft rotation matches the direction labelled on the cable box top face. You should ensure that the direction of rotation is anti-clockwise when viewed from the shaft end. Then you should connect the free ends of the cable to the control panel and power the motor for about a second or two.
Continuously pour pure water over the sand guard to get rid of the generated heat. You should check the direction of the motor shaft rotation and if it is in the same direction as marked on the cable box face then your connections are correct. If the direction of rotation of the shaft doesn’t match the marking on the cable box, then you should interchange any two lead cables at the control panel.
Free rotation
Before you couple the pump set, you should ensure free rotation of the motor and the pump. You should also ensure upward and downward movements of the motor and the pump.
Coupling your pump
Now is the right time to couple your submersible water pump. Erect the tripod with the chain. Unpack the pump and remove the strainer and cable guard, keep the motor vertical. Fit coupling with the motor shaft and apply the threading compound to the thread on the delivery casing. Screw the smaller length of delivery pipe to the casing and check the play in assembled condition.
