For an older person, a mobile dental clinic is a brilliant idea. Many old people, especially those whose families are not around, who are in special care facilities, or who have special needs, often find it harder to look after their physical health, mental health, and oral health. Some care facilities provide these things, but the one thing that is hard to provide is dental health. A dentist needs equipment that they cannot carry in a dental bag. They need extra good lighting, mirrors, a special dental chair for the patient, and of course, tools. And so while a doctor can visit an older person at home or at a home, and while a psychologist can do the same, or a physical therapist or occupational therapist, a dentist cannot really do house calls. Until now, where mobile dentists have become accessible. And that is because they travel in mobile dental practices. The vans or containers have been fully converted into dental practices, with everything the patient and the dentist needs, and they move on wheels. It is a brilliant idea and may be just the thing for you, or for an older person in your life.
A dentist on wheels
A mobile dentist is a dentist who has their practice on wheels. This is a bit like a mobile eye clinic or a mobile HIV clinic. They drive to where they are needed, often in more vulnerable areas or areas where people cannot access health care easily. A mobile dental van will park in an area, namely a special needs facility or an old-aged home, and patients can pop in. Sometimes it is based on appointments, which is what happens at old-aged homes, and sometimes it is pop-in. Either way, the care is thorough and a mobile dental clinic specializes in the aged.
